"I have been proud to serve on the Skiatook School Board for seven years and we have grown significantly during that time," Cooper said in a statement.  "May my resignation help begin the healing process for our community."

The grand jury claimed Cooper approved purchases from E and E sales, an Oklahoma City supplier, that were marked up as much as 500 percent and that he also allowed the district to overpay for equipment by more than $230,000.

The grand jury report indicted Dr. Gary Johnson, the former superintendent of the Skiatook School District.  He faces embezzlement and bribery charges.
