SKIATOOK, OK -- The president of the Skiatook School Board resigned Friday.
A grand jury investigating a spending scandal at Skiatook Schools recommended Kenny Cooper be removed from office.
"I have been proud to serve on the Skiatook School Board for seven years and we have grown significantly during that time," Cooper said in a statement. "May my resignation help begin the healing process for our community."
The grand jury claimed Cooper approved purchases from E and E sales, an Oklahoma City supplier, that were marked up as much as 500 percent and that he also allowed the district to overpay for equipment by more than $230,000.
The grand jury report indicted Dr. Gary Johnson, the former superintendent of the Skiatook School District. He faces embezzlement and bribery charges.
