TULSA, OK -- Amateur radio operators from all over the country are in Tulsa Saturday to practice their skills.
Ham operators say it's a fun hobby now, but they could provide critical communications in an emergency.
"We're practicing for emergency communication like when back in the ice storm, we all lost power. We had Ham radio operators operate at the hospitals to provide communication between hospitals and emergency coordinators," said Nathan Huffstetler, a Ham operator.
At the field day held at Chandler Park, operators used their radios to send messages to stations at schools, backyards and malls across the country.
