OKLAHOMA CITY -- Rescue crews have found a man's body after he drowned in the Canadian River.
He's been identified as 34-year-old Lloyd Robinson.
Oklahoma City Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Stanaland said firefighters received a call just after 3 p.m. Thursday that a man went into the water under a northeast Oklahoma County bridge and never resurfaced.
Family members told authorities they were fishing and swimming in the water when an 8-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister got too far out in the water and had trouble getting back to shore. The father reached the children and threw them back onshore, but in the process lost his life.
Stanaland says firefighters in life vests tried to find the man but were unsuccessful. He says dive teams recovered his body about 4:12 p.m. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hiwassee Road between Hefner and Memorial roads were closed during the search.
