Tulsa Driver Says He Crashed Car To Escape Armed Hitchhiker

A driver told police he wrecked his car into the front of a Tulsa trash truck to avoid an armed hitchhiker.

TULSA, OK -- A driver told police he wrecked his car into the front of a Tulsa trash truck to avoid an armed hitchhiker.

The crash happened in the 3100 block of North Cincinnati at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver told police he picked up a man at 46th Street North and Cincinnati to give him a ride. Police were told that once the man was in the car, he pulled a gun on the driver.

The driver's Chrysler hit the front of a garage truck that was pulling out from a driveway, left the roadway then snapped a utility pole.

When police arrived, they found the driver climbing out of the car through the smashed back window. He told police the passenger with a gun got out of the car and ran away.

The driver was checked on the scene for injuries but not transported by EMSA.
