TULSA, OK -- The community of Oologah will play host to a World Meningitis Day event Saturday afternoon.
According to a news release from Meningitis Angels, a national organization based in Texas, the event will bring families, community leaders, and state lawmakers to Oologah to celebrate life and educate the public on meningitis.

Last month, a meningococcal meningitis outbreak in the Oologah school district saw 7 students contract the disease.
Two children, Shuache Moua and Andrew Thomas, lost their lives and 5 others were hospitalized.

Doctors had to amputate the arms and legs of Jeremiah Mitchell, who remains in a Cincinnati hospital.

According to the news release, 18-year-old Karisa Pales, who was one of the five hospitalized, has since joined Meningitis Angels to become an advocate.

Organizers are inviting everyone to attend the event at Oologah High School auditorium at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
