TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa Police officer shot and killed a 58-year-old man in north Tulsa early Monday morning.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight when police say the man, identified as Daniel Nichols, pointed a hand gun at a police officer.
Officers were first called to the 3100 block of North 74th East Avenue around 6 p.m. Sunday. They say Nichols called police threatening to kill himself, telling them where they could find his body.
When they arrived, they found Nichols sitting in his car with a pistol to his head.
Tulsa Police negotiation teams were brought in and talked with him for six hours.
They say Nichols got in and out of his car several times during the standoff. The last time Nichols left the car, police say he threatened officers.
Police say 11 year veteran officer Phil Whitehead shot Nichols in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
