TULSA, OK -- A burglary alarm alerted Tulsa Police and Fire to a blaze at a Tulsa methadone treatment center at about 2 a.m. Friday in the 10000 block of East Ute.
Fire investigators say the cause of the blaze at the Oklahoma Treatment Center was arson, and damage to the structure is estimated at close to $500,000.
"Someone broke a window and entered the building," said Acting Administrative Chief Bill French with the Tulsa Fire Department.
A computer was stolen, but the methadone at the clinic was not damaged as it is stored in two large vaults in another part of the building.
"The fire burned with such intensity that it deformed some of the large structural I-beams," French said. "Because of the nature of the facility, the company had to contact the DEA before they could even transport the pharmaceuticals to another location."
Firefighters extinguished the fire in the Wolf Industrial park area. Smoke had also entered a nearby building.
A person of interest was questioned, French said, but there are no suspects in custody.
