TULSA, OK -- Two Tulsans were honored Wednesday for going above and beyond the call of duty. The Rotary Club of Tulsa recognizes a firefighter and a police officer each year.
They chose Officer Charles Haywood this year for his quick response at a crime scene. Haywood's quick thinking at an armed robbery led to four arrests and convictions.
"You know this is just overwhelming for me," said Tulsa Police Offcer Charles Haywood. "It's just a huge, huge honor. It's very exciting to be a part of it."
Firefighter Danny Hite was at the lake with family when he saw a man dive in the water. When the man didn't come back up, Hite knew something was wrong, so he dove in to rescue him.
"It's a great honor," said Danny Hite of the Tulsa Fire Department. "There are a lot of people that took a part of the rescue that we won for, and I wish they all could have been here."
The honorees are nominated by their peers and then selected by the Rotary Club.
