MUSKOGEE, OK -- It took almost 65 years, but an Oklahoma D-Day veteran is finally awarded for his heroism during World War II.
91-year-old Joseph Osborn was injured, storming the beaches of Normandy, but never received his Purple Heart. That finally happened in a special ceremony Tuesday in Muskogee.
Osborn says he never pursued the medal, and never worried about it, but a caretaker recently took up his cause.
"It means a lot to me. It may not mean much to somebody else, but it means a lot to me," said Joseph Osborn, U.S. Army (Ret).
Osborn was also given his American Defense Service Medal and World War II victory medal.
