Tulsa Humane Society: Newly Rescued Pups Ready For Adoption

TULSA, OK -- Twenty-five dogs and puppies are getting ready for their new homes. They came from an alleged puppy mill in Missouri.

The Humane Society of Tulsa says it's another sad example of breeders looking to make a quick buck.

More than two dozen dogs and puppies were unloaded early Wednesday night, the first step on the way to their new life.

"Yeah, she's got ear mites as well," said Dr. Chad Lewis, Medical Director.

They came from a breeder in Marshall, Missouri who dropped off 200 dogs at a veterinary clinic.

Now 25 Shih Tzu's, Schnauzers, and poodles are in Tulsa getting cleaned and treated for a number of medical problems.

"We'll see a lot of them with ear mites, ear infection and then just general care. They'll have skin infections, fleas, ticks, things like that," Dr. Lewis said.

The good news, the Humane Society says, is the dogs can be easily treated and will eventually make good pets.

"It'll take us some time but most of them are young and despite the horrible conditions they've been in - we pulled them out of their crates and they're matted and dirty and their tails are wagging like crazy because they're just so excited to be touched," said Kiley Roberson, Humane Society spokesperson.

Carol Cook was so moved by the story when she saw it on Six In the Morning that she decided to donate $100 to the Humane Society. She hopes the money will buy food and inspires others to reach out to our new four-legged Tulsans.

"It goes to a good cause. We got to help each other out, okay," said Bixby resident Carol Cook.

"She's a little bit older, I'd put her around four or five maybe," said Dr. Chad Lewis, Humane Society Medical Director, as he examined a rescued dog.

The Humane Society says many of the dogs should be ready for adoption by Friday morning. All they need is good home, a little patience, and a fresh start.
