BNSF Train Hits Car Stopped On Tulsa Railroad Tracks

TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Police are trying to find why a car was stopped on the railroad tracks and struck by a westbound train Wednesday morning.   

Police say the 46-year-old driver of a car headed northbound on Harvard had stopped on the tracks and the crossing arm had come down on the hood of the car.  

Witnesses tell The News On 6 the man apparently stopped his car on the tracks because of a semi truck in the same lane on the north side of the tracks.

The witnesses say the train blew its warning horn, but the car did not move before train's lead engine struck the car.

The accident closed all the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad crossings from Independence to Yale as police investigated the accident.

The driver of the car was transported by EMSA to a Tulsa hospital.  EMSA says the man's injuries were non-life threatening.
