TULSA, OK -- Dense freezing fog across much of northeastern Oklahoma caused a number of multiple problems for motorists Wednesday morning.
In Tulsa, police and OHP troopers worked a number of accidents. The biggest accident was a 20-car pile up on U.S. Highway 412 west of Sand Springs near 161st West Avenue.
"We think initially that one vehicle came across the bridge lost control, and everything chain reactioned and piled up behind that," said Lt. George Brown of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Sand Springs Fire responded to the scene. Eastbound lanes of 412 were closed for 2 hours and 20 minutes while crews cleaned up the accident scene.
Driver Sampson King said he never saw it coming.
"It was really, really foggy," King said. "I mean you couldn't see probably 30 feet in front of you.
"It's wild, you know," he said. "You don't think the morning is going to start off like this."
Four people were injured and three were transported by EMSA to Tulsa hospitals. None of the injuries were considered life threatening.
Late Tuesday night, five people are rushed to a Tulsa hospital after a multi-car accident on U.S. Highway 75 at the Arkansas River bridge.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the 10:45 p.m. accident started when the driver of one car pulled over to change a flat tire on the bridge. That started a chain reaction.
In all, OHP troopers say four cars were involved sending five people to the hospital.
"There's no shoulder here on the river bridge, it's not advisable, if you have a flat tire, or anything, you need to immediately, try to at all possible, to get your vehicle removed from the roadway," said trooper Darrick Eades.
Troopers say none of the injuries were critical.
