TULSA---The Tulsa Computer Society's Helping Tulsa project usually helps schools by refurbishing donated computers. When they were contacted by South African high school teacher Ebenezer Aidoo they invited him to the Tulsa for two weeks of training in refurbishing computers, and donated 30 computers for his students. Don Singleton, President of Tulsa Computer Society and Helping Tulsa says he has a goal for Ebenezer during his short stay.
‘To be able to teach him enough that he will be able to set up an operation like Helping Tulsa in South Africa,' said Don, ‘so that he can get computers and refurbish them so that his schoolchildren will have computer access.'
Ebenezer is excited for both what the computers will do for his students and for the computer skills he has gotten for Don.
‘I know before I will leave the United States that I will be able to fully refurbish a computer,' said Ebenezer, ‘and then I know how to do some repair, change the hard drive and how to format the computer, how to put programs on the computer.'
The major problem is shipping the computers to remote South Africa will be expensive and Don and Ebenezer and asking for donations to help with the $4000 shipping fee. If you would like to donate computers or shipping costs to Ebenezer's students, contact Don Singleton with Helping Tulsa at:
