TULSA, OK -- The National Weather Service said a powerful storm system will affect the southern Plains through at least Thursday, bringing a chance of spring-like severe thunderstorms and snow to different areas of Oklahoma.

"A white Christmas is looking more probable," said News On 6 meteorologist Nick Bender, "but before the snowfall, we have to go through the rain and thunderstorms."

Around 6 p.m., Wednesday, Meteorologist Dick Farout updated those number to 8 inches, "Widespread snow is expected. Four inches in many areas and 8 inches in some," Faurot said. "Of course, there will be a lot of melting when the snow first hits, affecting those amounts."

The winter weather advisory has been issued for the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles for snow and blowing snow.

Lows Wednesday night are forecast to range form the teens in the Panhandle to the middle 40s in southeastern Oklahoma.

The entire state will see a chance of rain and snow on Thursday, as temperatures cool into a range from the middle 20s to upper 40s.
