Tulsa, OK – It has been one year since Tulsa County launched Veterans Treatment Court. The program is one of only three of its kind in the nation.
Instead of jail time, veterans who run into trouble with the law are given the opportunity to participate in the program.
It involves mentoring and help with substance abuse.
It also connects veterans with others who served, and who are dealing with similar problems.
"The camaraderie is really there. That kind of helps them through the process as they go through this 12 month step," said Matt Stiner, Veterans Court Coordinator.
Veterans court members say cities like Houston, Los Angeles and Kansas city have approached them about launching similar programs.
