OSAGE COUNTY -- An Osage County Sheriff's deputy died in a car crash late Wednesday night en route to a burglary call. The wreck happened at 11:30 p.m. north of Prue and west of Sand Springs in Osage County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 25-year-old Adam Mehagan of Skiatook lost control of his squad car on a curve on Peach Orchard Road about a mile from New Prue Road.
A memorial fund has been established for the deputy's wife and daughter: Deputy Adam Mehagan Memorial Fund, C/O Citizens Bank; P.O. Box 27, Pawhuska, OK 74056
According to the OHP, the deputy's patrol car, which was northbound, went through a fence and rolled twice.
Mehagan was ejected from his patrol car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the deputy's car was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the wreck and that Mehagan was not wearing a seat belt.
Osage County Undersheriff Lou Ann Brown says Mehagan had been employed with the Osage County Sheriff's Office nine months. Prior to working for the sheriff's office, Mehagan worked for the Pawhuska Police Department and Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Brown says Mehagan leaves behind a wife and an eleven-month-old daughter.
