TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa Health Department will vaccinate hundreds of students this week against the H1N1 flu virus.
The Tulsa Health Department expects to receive 5,600 doses of the vaccine this week.
The locations scheduled for the upcoming week include the Laura Dester Shelter, Cooper Elementary, East Central High School, Jackson Elementary and Glenpool Elementary pre-k - 2nd graders.
Students and staff at more than a dozen Tulsa schools will be receiving a free H1N1 vaccination. The schools are being divided into three groups. [see list below]
Dates for the second and third groups will be announced by TPS once the health department informs the district.
Group 1:
• Cooper Elementary, November 3, 9 a.m. - Noon
• East Central, November 4, 9 a.m. - Noon
• Jackson Elementary, November 5, 9 a.m. - Noon
• Group 2: Bell, Memorial, Skelly and Wright.
• Group 3: Academy Central, Central, Cleveland, Edison MS, Edison HS, Hamilton, Kipp, McLain, Newcomer, Patrick Henry, Rogers and Whitney.
Vaccinations are only available for enrolled students and employed staff of the selected sites. Students aged nine or younger will require a second vaccination dose no earlier than 28 days after the first. The health department does not plan on providing the second dose at the school site. Parents will be responsible for acquiring the second dose either at the health department's physical offices or at another vaccination site.
Consent forms from the health department and TPS are available for download at http://www.tulsaschools.org/ and will be sent home with students prior to each vaccination date. Both consent forms are required to receive the vaccination.
