TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa homeowner turns the tables on two men who tried to break into his home. The News On 6 spoke exclusively to Cory Gage about how he surprised the would-be robbers.

"I was standing right here and they came through the door and I just leveled off and took the shot," said Cory Gage, a home invasion victim.

Cory Gage says he has been eerily calm despite becoming the victim of a home invasion.

"I keep seeing the guy's face in my head over and over and over," said Gage.

Gage was home taking a nap when the doorbell rang at about 1:30 on Thursday afternoon. He didn't recognize the two men, so he didn't answer the door and he thought they left.

"They started jiggling the doorknob and at that point I was like ‘no, something's not right here,'" said Gage.

So, he went to get his gun when the men kicked in the door.

"The first guy came through and he had the look of ‘oh!' on his face," said Gage. "I couldn't help myself and I said some action movie type line and fired a shot and of course, me making that comment, gave them a moment to get away."

Gage fired a single shot.

"I came to here and then my mouth, it came over me again...'yeah, you better run,'" said Gage.

That's when he went inside and called the police. He and his stepfather spent the day replacing the door and the doorframe, but Gage says he'll keep the screen door with the bullet hole as a reminder of his close call.

"It's just scary how easy it would have been just to take somebody's life like that. Honestly, it scares the hell out of me," said Gage. "It also bothers me that I was put in this situation where I had to make that choice."

If you have heard anything about this crime that might help police, call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS.
