OSU's Dez Bryant Declared Ineligible

STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Oklahoma State announced today that All-American receiver Dez Bryant has been declared indefinitely ineligible by the NCAA for a violation of NCAA bylaw 10.1 (D).

Bylaw 10.1 protects against unethical conduct by an athlete, and specifically subsection D involves an athlete "knowingly furnishing the NCAA or the individual's institution false or misleading information concerning the individual's involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a possible violation of an NCAA regulation."

The situation arose because Bryant failed to openly share the full details of his interaction with former NFL player Deion Sanders.

On his Facebook page Wednesday, Bryant admitted fault. His status read:

"This is why I'm suspended.....I went to Deion sanders house ....and the NCAA found out.....they ask me if I been to his house I told them no...I thought it was a violation...but it wasn't... so I told them I went to his house... I lied to ...them and I shouldn't have....and I'm not suspended for the rest of the season....I'm sorry osu!"

Other media outlets have reported that Bryant's suspension will end his season, but that is not the case. No timetable has been set for his return, and OSU has already begun the process of applying to the NCAA to reinstate Bryant.

"I made a mistake by not being entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA," Bryant said in a statement released by OSU. "I sincerely regret my mistake and apologize to my teammates, coaches, OSU fans and the NCAA."

Bryant currently leads the Cowboys with 17 receptions, 323 yards and four touchdowns. He finished last season with 87 receptions for 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns. He was selected as an All-American and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation's best receiver.

"We are certainly disappointed, but we are moving forward as we would with any challenge during the season," said OSU head coach Mike Gundy.
