Checotah Man Arrested In Death Of 18-Year-Old Fiance

TULSA, OK -- Victor Joe Carl Dowling, 22, was arrested at a Tulsa hospital on a complaint of second degree murder in the shooting death of his fiance, 18-year-old Katlyn Ann Lewis.

The shooting took place at around midnight Wednesday in the couple's Checotah home on Texanna Road.

Dowling was handling his 9mm gun in the living room of the house when the weapon fired and a bullet struck Lewis, according to Jessica Brown, Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.

Lewis died from those wounds at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa later Wednesday morning.

Dowling was transported to McIntosh County where he was booked on a complaint of second degree murder. His bond has been set at $150,000 according to the McIntosh County Sheriff's Department.
