TULSA, OK -- High speed rail is a real possibility according to The Oklahoma Department of Transportation. ODOT held a public meeting on Tuesday night to solicit Oklahomans' opinions about the $2 billion they're applying for through the federal stimulus bill.
The money would pay for track improvements to the existing Heartland Flyer route between Oklahoma City and the Texas state line. But, the majority of the money would pay for a new high speed rail line between Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
"I'm hoping that it makes ODOT a little bit more realistic about what can be done in Oklahoma in the near future. It seems to me that they have too ambitious a plan," said Tony Nupsl of Tulsa.
ODOT's application is due October 2nd.
