TULSA, OK -- Sometimes fans want more than a T-shirt or sweatshirt to express their school spirit. Often that something more is hard to find. A Tulsan couldn't find what she wanted, so she designed her own, the styles caught on, and now, all of us can Ketch the Spirit.
Cortney Ketchum says her new business started rather simply. She couldn't find what she wanted to wear to football and basketball games so she designed something herself.
"I would sketch them on a piece of paper, scan and send it to my mom," said Cortney Ketchum.
Her mom was her first seamstress. The designs caught on with her friends and they all wanted to know where to buy them and that's how new business got started.
"The majority of the designs are for every school," said Cortney Ketchum.
Three stores in Tulsa carry her TU and OSU outfits now and she's been licensed by 10 universities in five states. So far, no OU, she says she's just applied to the trademark office again and she's hopeful.
"We are gonna start working on a kids line," said Cortney Ketchum.
Cortney says her Ketch the Spirit designs have really caught on this season. She's been to both games in Stillwater so far.
"Everywhere I looked, there was somebody in my dress or top or something Ketch the Spirit. It was awesome. It really was," said Cortney Ketchum.
Ketchum says once she gets OU and Kansas signed up she's heading for Ole Miss Alabama and Georgia.
You can find a complete list of schools Ketch the Spirit represents on the internet.
