Indendence, Kansas Man Arrested On Arrested On Kidnapping And Rape Complaints

MIAMI, OK -- An Independence, Kansas man is in the Ottawa County jail in Miami after he is arrested in connection with the apparent kidnapping and sexual assault case. 

Ottawa County Sheriff Terry Durborow says 34-year old Garth Howell was arrested following a traffic stop at the intersection of state Highway 137 and state Highway 10. 

The victim, a 34-year old woman from Independence, Kansas got out of the car and ran toward sheriff's deputies. 

She told deputies she had been taken against her will to a rural area in Delaware County where she was sexually assaulted. 

Howell was booked into the Ottawa County jail.  He is also facing potential charges in Kansas as well as Delaware County in Oklahoma.
