NOWATA, OK -- A man walking on the railroad tracks just south of the city of Nowata was struck by a freight train early Wednesday morning.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the incident happened at 12:03 a.m. on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
Troopers say the victim, a 43-year-old Steve Hindman of Delaware, was walking southbound when he was struck by a southbound freight train. The impact knocked Hindman 50 feet.
Hindman was flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition. Authorities don't know why he was walking on the tracks.
