TULSA, OK -- A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition after an auto-pedestrian accident at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of North Yale. Police say she ran into the street in front of a driver who could not stop in time and struck the teen.
"It's a real bad place to cross right here," said Corporal Darren Bristow of the Tulsa Police Department. "There's very limited lighting and the crest of the hill coming southbound. It's one of those places where any person, any time of the night would not be crossing in a safe manner."
The driver had just crested a hill going southbound on North Yale when the pedestrian tried to cross the street running from west to the east, Bristow said.
At the time of the accident, Tulsa Police thought the driver was traveling at the speed limit and that no alcohol was involved.
The unidentified girl was transported to St. John Hospital in critical condition, according to Corporal Darren Bristow.
