Convicted Tulsa Murderer Sentenced To Death

TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa County associate district court judge followed a jury's recommendation Tuesday morning and sentenced Raymond Johnson to death for two counts of first-degree murder for the killing of a mother and her child. 

Last month, a jury convicted Johnson of beating Brooke Whitaker to death with a hammer and then setting the house on fire, which also killed her 7-month-old daughter. 

The jury also recommended Johnson be sentenced to life in prison on the first-degree arson conviction.

Judge also set an execution date of October 2nd.  That date will most likely be delayed due to automatic appeals over the death penalty.
