STILWELL, OK -- Alcohol and excessive speed were blamed for a one-car accident that left a 77-year-old woman dead and two other passengers hospitalized Friday night, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Juanita Roland, 77, of Stilwell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which happened just after 7 p.m. Friday on State Highway 100 about a mile west of Stilwell in Adair County.
Eight-year-old Latavia Roland of Stilwell, one of the passengers in the vehicle, was taken by medical helicopter to St. Francis in Tulsa where she is listed in critical condition with head and internal injuries.
The driver, 54-year-old Patsy Harley of Okmulgee was treated and released from a local hospital.
According to the highway patrol, the driver lost control of the car on a curve while travelling at an unsafe speed. The car left the roadway to the right, then flipped two and a half times after the driver overcorrected, the report states. The car hit two utility poles before coming to rest on the roof. Roland was partially ejected from the vehicle.
Another passenger, 56-year-old Agenes Scott of Stilwell was also airlifted from the scene of the accident. She is listed in stable condition with head and internal injuries.
