PRAGUE, – Heavy rains are flooding southern parts of the Czech Republic, with mudslides damaging houses and roads in the region.

Rivers have been swelling in rural areas some 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Prague, the capital, Sunday but no casualties had been reported. Army troops and firefighters are helping to restore roads in the region and authorities in Prague on Sunday afternoon were shoring up the banks of the Vltava river which caused severe damage to the historic city in 2002.

Flash floods hit the region of northern Moravia earlier in the week, killing a total of 13 people.
