DENVER -- Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols asked for representation in a lawsuit against a federal prison, which he claims is causing him to "sin against God" because he doesn't get enough whole grains and fresh food.

Nichols made the request in a handwritten legal document addressed to a federal judge in Denver Monday. He says he can't afford an attorney, has limited legal knowledge, and that his case is complex and requires "significant research."

Nichols is serving a life sentence at the Supermax prison in Colorado for conspiracy and involuntary manslaughter in the 1995 bombing, which killed 168. Timothy McVeigh was convicted of murder and executed.
