TULSA, OK -- The company that sells Caterpillar construction equipment in Oklahoma and parts of Texas has laid off more than 80 employees.
A spokeswoman for the parent company of Warren Cat has confirmed to The News On 6 that the company laid off about 8% of its work force.
Warren Cat owns a large dealership at 36th Street North and Highway 169 in Tulsa.
The company is based in Midland, Texas and has dealerships across Oklahoma as well as 80-plus counties in northwestern Texas.
According to Gail Heathington, marketing director for Warren Equipment Company, the company laid off about 85 people last Thursday, after putting out a notice in February that layoffs were possible.
The reduction in work force happened at all 16 of the company's locations in Texas and Oklahoma.
Heathington said the people affected worked in all types of positions, had varying degrees of seniority, and most likely will never be called back.
She said the company doesn't anticipate more layoffs, but said that could change if the economy does not improve in the next six months.
Heathington said she didn't have a break down of how many Oklahoma employees of the company were laid off.
