TULSA, OK -- A change is coming to Tulsa radio. Public Radio 89.5 KWGS announces plans to expand its local news coverage.
The listener-supported radio service at the University of Tulsa on Thursday announced that John Durkee has been named news director for the operation.
"This presents an exciting opportunity for me to tell thought-provoking, compelling stories about Tulsa and our region," said John Durkee.
Previously, Durkee served as the news director for Cox Radio-Tulsa which included the stations of KRMG, KWEN, KRAV, KJSR and KKCM. Since June of 2008, he has served as communications director for the City of Tulsa.
"John is going back to his true passion: radio. We have been fortunate to have had John's experience at the City of Tulsa and I thank him for his service," said Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.
Funding for the news director position at KWGS was provided through a multi-year grant from the George Kaiser Family Foundation.
