Construction Begins Monday On I-244 Bridges

TULSA, OK -- Work will begin Monday to repair the westbound Interstate 244 bridges over U.S. 169, Mingo Road and 89th East Avenue in Tulsa.

The nearly $4 million project includes replacing the decks on all three bridges and making repairs to the substructures.

Drivers can expect various lane and ramp closures starting later in the week on westbound I-244 and on the roadways below the bridges during all hours. The project is expected to take about seven months to complete.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will use a new traffic update system to give current work zone condition alerts to the more than 76,000 vehicles that use the highway daily.

Eight traffic sensors will be set up on U.S. 169, westbound I-44 and westbound I-244 to monitor current traffic speeds. Message boards will give drivers heading toward the work zone real-time updates on the traffic speed ahead and whether to expect delays or stops.

Drivers are still urged to plan extra time for travel through the area. Westbound I-44 and westbound State Highway 51 can be used as alternate routes around the work zone. Lane and ramp closures will be listed on ODOT's daily Traffax reports.
