BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Another West Coast innovation has made its way to the Tulsa area: the combination car wash/dog wash.
Tyler and Trent brought their dog Baxter to their dad's car wash to give him a bath.
The Budget Car Wash at 709 W. Houston St. in Broken Arrow has two dog-washing suites.
"You can see he's really enjoying it," Todd DeSmet said.
In addition to shampoo, it has a blow dryer and treats.
"We were looking for ways to increase traffic at the car wash, and frankly it's taken on a life of its own," Desmet said.
He says he saw the idea in a trade magazine.
"You don't have to bend over at home," DeSmet said. "You don't have the mess at home."
Cheryl Smith came in with her chocolate lab, Tia.
"I considered putting her in my shower, but I was afraid I might be paying a plumber bill when I got through," she said.
The dog wash works the same as the adjacent car wash. Customers can put in the coins or tokens and turn the knob for shampoo, flea and tick treatment and conditioner.
Tia seemed to enjoy it.
"She likes water, never minded a bath," Smith said.
DeSmet is talking to the City of Tulsa about putting a similar dog wash at dog parks.
The Budget Car Wash in Broken Arrow is open 24 hours a day.
