FORT CAMPBELL, KY -- A Fort Campbell staff sergeant from Braggs has received a 17-month sentence in the assault of an Iraqi detainee who died.
In addition to the confinement, Staff Sgt. Hal Warner had his rank reduced and was given a bad conduct discharge, Maj. John Paul Arnold told the NewsOn6 by telephone.
Warner will get credit for the 59 days he has already served after he pleaded guilty to charges of providing false information in a sworn statement, assault and maltreatment.
He told a military judge that he stood on the back of the detainee's legs and later stripped the detainee naked in the desert.
