Restoring Power To Eastern Oklahoma

UNDATED --  Under 20,000 electricity customers remain without power after a deadly winter storm dumped ice, freezing rain, sleet and snow on the state earlier this week.

Most of those homes and businesses receive power from rural electric co-ops in eastern Oklahoma.

Sid Sperry with the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives says a number of customers were still without electricity late Wednesday night.

Oklahoma Gas and Electric outages had dwindled to about 630 and Public Service Company of Oklahoma reported no major outages.

PSO spokesman Stan Whiteford said power was restored by Wednesday to all PSO customers who suffered outages because of the storm.  Nearly 40,000 Oklahoma PSO customers were without power at the height of the storm late Tuesday. 

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says it worked 1,150 weather-related traffic accidents, including 200 involving injuries and three fatalities.
