TULSA, OK -- A six-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the face. It happened after 5 p.m. Wednesday in a house in the 800 block of North Troost.
Tulsa police have been going through the house, looking for clues to corroborate the family's story. They say the six-year-old boy, who has Down's Syndrome, was in a bedroom when he shot himself in the face.
However, Tulsa Police were not called by the family. They were actually called by Hillcrest Medical Center staff after the family arrived there with the boy. He was then flown to another Tulsa hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Apparently there are four kids who live in the home with their mother. Neighbors say she had just gotten married and her husband had just moved in, after being released from prison.
The neighbors say they've had trouble with the family before.
"She'll go off and leave them kids up there by their self. And, I don't approve of that," said neighbor Lenora Hamilton.
Police say they don't know if any family members were home at the time of the shooting, but the family did take the child to the hospital. The family members are being interviewed at the hospital.
