NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY:

Across the eastern two thirds of the Nation, a cold front brought scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Great Lakes, the western Ohio Valley, and the Middle Mississippi River Valley. Most of these storms were not strong. However, a few locally severe storms occurred in portions of Missouri. Penny sized hail and wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph occurred in Rolla, Missouri. Also, nickel sized hail occurred near Bonne Terre, Missouri. Rainfall amounts were generally between a quarter and three quarters of an inch, with locally higher amounts. Chicago, Illinois picked up 0.82 inches of rain. Meanwhile, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across southern Florida during the afternoon and evening hours. The main impacts from these storms were locally heavy rains and moderate amounts of lightning. Fort Myers, Florida received 2.75 inches of rain from storms. Also, a few waterspouts were observed off the Miami Coastline and near Indian Key, Florida. Further north, isolated showers and thunderstorms occurred across portions of Georgia and the Carolinas. No significant rainfall occurred with this activity. Mainly dry and quiet weather occurred across the Northeast and the Gulf Coast. Elsewhere, high pressure brought dry and pleasant conditions to the Great Plains.

In the West, isolated showers and thunderstorms occurred across the western Great Basin, portions of the Desert Southwest, and parts of California. These storms did not become strong and were primarily focused across higher terrain. The highest concentration of activity was found across the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. To the north, dry and unseasonably warm conditions occurred across the Pacific Northwest. Highs approached 90 degrees in Portland, Oregon. The high of 83 degrees in Quillayute, Washington broke the old record of 81 degrees, set in 1987. Elsewhere, high pressure brought dry and warm conditions to the Rockies and the eastern Great Basin.
