TULSA, OK -- Tulsa County has agreed to mediation in its battle with the City of Tulsa over the cost of housing city inmates. The deal to house most of those inmates free of charge was set to run out on Tuesday.
But county commissioners voted on Monday to push the deadline back 60 days, and to find a mediator to settle the dispute.
For 10 years, the county has kept city inmates, in exchange for the use of some city property.
Now the county wants to charge the City of Tulsa about $54 a day for each inmate. City officials, including Mayor Taylor, say that's unfair.
