I can't believe it's almost time to race! We've been talking about it for months, and it's already here! This Saturday will be a terrific day as thousands of folks lace up their shoes for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
If you haven't registered, you still have time! You can even show up race morning and register. Everything gets started around 6 a.m. - I know that sounds early... but hey! It's not THAT early! There's a timed 5K sanctioned race, an untimed 5K and a 1 mile Fun Run/Walk. There's something for everyone.
This year, your kids will enjoy a kid's zone, complete with inflatables. There will be tents set up for you to browse through and don't miss the survivor parade. Hundreds of breast cancer survivors dressed in their pink race shirts, will march together in a show of support and victory. Skynews 6 is scheduled to fly over and capture video of us.
This will be my fifth Race for the Cure to participate in and each year, I'm grateful for another year! When I see other survivors walking, I'm encouraged and empowered. When I see these 15, 20 or 25 year survivors, I have hope. Race officials say they expect more than 10,000 people to come out and participate and they're expecting record numbers in donations as well. Wouldn't it be great if this is the year... the year they find a cure for breast cancer? Some of the money raised this weekend will go to research and 75% will stay right here in Tulsa County to help patients.
If you're at the race, stop by the Channel 6 booth to say hello or look for me walking in the untimed 5K with my family and friends as we Race for the Cure!
