The remnants of Hurricane Ike are causing misery far from the Gulf Coast.

At least 15 deaths have been counted in the Midwest and mid-South, including a teacher and his father who were sucked into a culvert and drowned while trying to rescue a boy from a flooded ditch in Indiana.

In all, 28 are known dead from the hurricane that struck the Gulf Coast Saturday morning -- and its aftermath.

Hurricane-force winds have been felt as far north as Ohio. Power outages have darkened more than a million homes and businesses in Ohio and Kentucky. Two million people were without power in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Dozens of people have been rescued by boat because of severe flooding in and around Chicago.
