The Tulsa Public School District has released a statement in response to a drive-by shooting on Sunday that injured four students:
The Tulsa Public Schools family was stunned and saddened to hear of the weekend shooting that injured four young men, including one Central and one McLain high school student.
TPS recognizes such violent incidents tend to have a ripple effect in the community. In addition to the direct victims, witnesses at a nearby elementary school, victims' family members, friends, teachers and neighbors may experience unfamiliar, uncomfortable emotions.
In order to ensure TPS students and staff remain safe and secure, Superintendent Dr. Michael Zolkoski has assigned extra security at McLain and Central high schools, as well as at Emerson Elementary School. Crisis counseling teams will deploy to the three schools to provide assistance to anyone who may need help working through their concerns.
At TPS our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones as they struggle to recover from this senseless tragedy.
