TULSA, OK -- Four people were hospitalized on Sunday after a drive-by shooting in North Tulsa. It happened in broad daylight near the intersection of Cincinnati and Independence. Police are still looking for the gunman, or gunmen.
Two of the victims are in critical condition; the other two are in serious condition. Police say their car was chased by another vehicle, before someone in that car opened fire.
A maroon Oldsmobile, riddled with bullets, crashed into the median on a busy section of Cincinnati Sunday afternoon. All four people inside the car were shot, and after they were treated and taken to local hospitals, police began their investigation.
"We truly do not know where this originally started. Witness stated that the grey car was trying to catch up with the vehicle behind us," said TPD Officer Leland Ashley.
Police are now looking for that grey car, which witnesses describe as an older model vehicle. TPD says there were at least four young men inside. Their victims were also young men, all either in their late teens or early 20's.
"It was very horrific for me, very devastating. All I could do was just pray," said Rhonda Howard.
Howard arrived shortly after the shooting. She says she is amazed that someone would open fire in the middle of a busy street, in the middle of the day.
"For someone to just drive up and shoot someone, bullets don't have eyes; they could have shot up other people. This could have been a really horrific accident, worse than what it was," said Howard.
Horrific was a word many used to describe the scene, and Rhonda says the shooting just doesn't make any sense.
"These mothers and fathers may wake up tomorrow without their sons or without their daughters. The violence just needs to stop, it really does," said Howard.
Gang task force members are assisting with the investigation, but TPD says it is too soon to determine whether or not this shooting is gang-related.
Tulsa Public Schools says one of the victims is a student at Central High, and another attends McLain. The district has assigned extra security to those schools. Crisis Counseling teams will also be on hand Monday.
