MIAMI (AP) - President Bush has declared that a major disaster area exists in Florida and has ordered federal aid in the wake of Tropical Storm Fay.
Federal funding will be made available for emergency work and repairs in Brevard, Monroe, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties.
Sunday's declaration will only pay for expenses incurred by counties dealing with the storm. More counties could be declared later and other aid could be extended to individual homeowners in the affected areas.
Fay was downgraded to a tropical depression on Saturday night after making a record fourth landfall in Florida.
The storm has been blamed for at least 11 deaths in Florida and one in Georgia.
