Getting Ready For Gimme The Mike Finale

TULSA, OK-- Thousands auditioned, twenty made the cut, and now it's time for the finale of Gimme the Mike.  NewsOn6.com anchor Margaret Stokes took a trip to Cain's ballroom to see what it takes to create one of the largest live television events in Green Country.

Most of the crew arrived at Cain's Ballroom at 7 o'clock on Monday morning to start setting up.  The six contestants were likely a little nervous about the finale, but anxiety set in with The News On 6 director as well.

"I didn't sleep well last night.  It's kind of funny this is our fifth year and I'm still having bad dreams about this show," said director Jamie Van Winkle.

Lucky for Jamie, everything appeared to be going as planned.  The cables and the six cameras were in place by noon.  The crew of about 20 plans to put in a 12 to 14 hour day before it's over.

Brad Harris, the production manager of Cain's has seen hundreds of artists perform at the famous ballroom and looks forward to watching new talent take the stage each.

"You just wish them the best and hope you see them back here in the future," said Cain's production manager Brad Harris.

For the crew, the day of hard work is worth it.

"This season we have some of the best performers we've had yet. So, I'm looking forward to it," said director Jamie Van Winkle.
