Members of the White City Neighborhood Association are moving forward with plans to recall Tulsa City Councilor Eric Gomez. On Thursday, they handed out recall petitions to registered voters in the district.
It all has to do with a low-income housing shelter that will be built on a lot at 10 South Yale.
Neighbors say Gomez violated the trust of his constituents by voting in favor of a multi-million dollar state grant to build the complex.
Gomez says he understands the criticism leveled by the neighbors, but says the decision to build was out of the city council's hands because the Tulsa Housing Authority controls the zoning rights.
Gomez also says all legal requirements for public notification were met, but he does think the city council should form a sub-committee to overhaul the notification process.
The preliminary petition has to get about 300 signatures to move forward.
