Kids Encouraged To Join Good Gangs

Sheriff's deputies are encouraging kids to join a gang, but it's not what you think. The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and the United Way are working with schools to show the positive benefits of the Boy Scouts.

Tulsa's Gang Task Force says we need good gangs in our community. The Boy Scouts help build character while teaching important life skills like good decision making and leadership.

Damon Williams has been a boy scout for three years. He says it's a great way to make friends and there are a lot of cool things to do.

"You get to get on canoes, you get to do the rifles, horses and it's kinda like school kinda. You get to go to classes. You get to do flight simulators," said 13-year-old Damon Williams.

Nearly 30,000 boys participate in area scout programs. Another 6,000 are expected to join this fall.
