Too often we report stories of a child drowning or dying an untimely death when it could have been prevented.  This month there is a chance to learn how to save a life when the unthinkable happens.  News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren reports it's easy to learn how, it's free and the rewards are priceless.

Brenda Powell says she loves being a full-time mom, but she admits it can be challenging.

"Everybody that I meet tells me I have my hands full. I'm still learning," said Brenda Powell.

On Friday, Powell was at Whiteside Park in Tulsa, where her children love to play and the pool is always full of little ones on a warm day.

But, you never know when child's play can turn into an emergency situation. A local organization wants you to be prepared in any type of emergency.

Citizen CPR instructor Leaha Kopp taught an impromptu CPR lesson for Powell and another parent.  Powell thought she knew how to do CPR on an infant, but it turns out, the techniques have changed.

"It's a major difference. So, if I would have done CPR, I would have been doing it wrong. So, I'm kind of glad I'm informed," said Brenda Powell.

Kevin Bolles has four kids, so he didn't hesitate to take a free lesson.

"When you don't know what's going on that's when you panic.  And, so it's best just to be prepared," said Kevin Bolles.

"Most people say I do need to learn CPR. I should know how to do that. But, finding the time and the money sometimes is another factor," said Leaha Kopp.

That's why Tulsa CPR instructors are offering free infant CPR classes every Saturday in June.  They want to arm you with the knowledge to save something so precious.

"It's very important. They're your children. You know, God entrusted you to keep them safe and you have to learn you can to keep them safe," said Brenda Powell.

Citizen CPR instructors teach "Save a Life Saturdays" for free this month only.  Each class is two hours long and they're taught at four different Tulsa Parks.

You can sign up by calling Citizen CPR at 596-3600 or visit their website.
