You don't have to go to that extreme to avoid the pain at the pump.  The News On 6's Carina Sonn reports there are several easy ways to save money.

Chris Shew is a mechanic with Firestone.  He says it's important to follow the tips we hear all the time:  make sure you have a clean air filter, get rid of all the junk in your car, and check the air in your tires on a regular basis.

"They say once a month, but if you're down a pound or two, five pounds of air pressure can really make a difference on gas mileage.  So, check it every time you fill up," said mechanic Chris Shew.

With gas prices so high, most people's wallets are on E', so now's a great time for a refresher on any gas saving tips you may have forgotten."

"Most of your newer cars, if you look in your owner's manual, they recommend oil changes anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500 miles," said mechanic Chris Shew.
