The U.S. Postal Service letter carriers fought against hunger on Saturday with their annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. This is the 16th year for the fundraiser.
All of the donated items are used to replenish area food pantries. Locally all the food items are sent to the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma which distributes to more than 485 pantries and serves more than 80,000 people.
"Last year we collected 265,000 pounds of food here in this area. We're hoping to beat that this year," said fundraiser coordinator Cherry Lowther
In 2007, the drive delivered more than 70 million pounds of non-perishable items to Americans in need.
