One week ago he said he was a changed man, now former OSU football player Prentiss Elliott is back in jail and police say he'll face felony charges. The News On 6's Jeffrey Smith reports Elliott allegedly opened fire Friday night at his girlfriend's house and then crashed his car a few blocks away. Detectives say they found a shell casing inside Elliott's car, but his girlfriend says Elliott never fired a gun.
Elliott was dismissed from the Cowboys in 2005. Since then he's had several run-ins with the law including arrests for assault and battery.
Last week The News On 6 showed an interview with Elliott at his new job, as a wide receiver for the Tulsa Talons.
"I definitely changed a lot. You know, I made mistakes in the past, and I learned from them, and became a better man, and a better person," said Elliott at the time.
Then came the call to Tulsa police on Friday night.
"The call was that Prentiss Elliott was coming to that house to shoot the daughter of that caller. A few moments after the call, we received another call that a maroon Acura had driven by, driven by Prentiss Elliott, and had shot at the house," said Tulsa Police Captain Ryan Perkins.
Minutes later, they got another call. The maroon Acura was involved in a three car wreck on Boston and Zion, just a few blocks away.
"It was just a wreck, that's it," said Elliott.
Elliott says there was no gunplay, but cops say the investigation proves shots were fired.
"There was a shell casing found in his car," said Captain Perkins.
But Elliot's girlfriend says he never fired a gun. All they did was have a shouting match.
"We're a normal couple. Normal couples have fights. We had an argument," said Myesha Pope.
"There were apparently multiple people standing in the street where the alleged vehicle drove by and the alleged shot was fired," said Captain Perkins.
Pope says she never called police, so the report is wrong.
"He's a good person. He's good to me, my son and my family," said Pope.
Elliott is expected to face several charges from allegedly firing a gun as well as traffic violations for allegedly running a stop sign.
The News On 6 spoke to Elliott's mother on Saturday. She says he's being portrayed unfairly because of his past. She also says Elliott is still in police custody.
